1. A quiet
haven in hutong beijing.
We stayed here for three days in April
and found it to be a peaceful and
comfortable haven with friendly and helpful
staff.; a refreshing change from the usual
large, characterless 'chain' hotels. We had
an 'executive' room which was large and airy
with four- poster bed; some of the standard
roms did look a little 'compact' if staying
for more than a day or two. Although access
by taxi can sometimes be difficult,
depending on the willingness of the driver
to venture down the narrow road, it is only
a 5 minute walk from the main road, and a 10
minute walk from a subway station, from
which the main tourist spots can be reached.
Although the hutong streets are dark at
night, at no time did we feel threatened
when walking through them. Food is good and
you are really made to feel welcome.
Thoroughly recommended if you want to try
and get near to a 'chinese' hotel experience
(with free internet access!).

All rose-wood furniture including the king size antique bed and comfortable “Luo Han?bed ( for receiving the guests) , were carved with auspicious design, either “Peonies?or dragon and phoenixes, together with the gauzing veils and curtains, the traditional palace lanterns, are decorating the room into the home of Chinese imperial royalty. Connected to the principle rooms by the corridor which was carved by the design of Chinese “Ru Yi?on the tile-stopper, means smoothness and happiness. The construction of Si He Yuan is the carrier of Chinese traditional
culture. From the site, location, size, carving and material?everything was
following the theories of Chinese traditional architecture and “FengSui? It express the people's pursuance of happiness, fineness, prosperity and auspiciousness. The dragons and phoenixes which was carved on the brick door sills, auspicious words and phrases on the corridors, the lintels and couplets on columns , paintings and calligraphies in the rooms, to stay in such decorated courtyard is really like lingering in a gallery of traditional Chinese culture.
The deluxe suites, it is most luxurious and largest suite. The Chinese style sumptuous furniture and the graceful decoration in the deluxe suites match each other in harmony. Made of rosewood, the furniture was carved with dragons and phoenix. The round armchair decorated with carved glossy ganoderma on a marble stone back.
